The Daughters of Charity came to Ireland in 1855 and became involved in providing services for persons with intellectual disability in the early 20th century until their retirement from the organisation in the early 21st century. In 2021 we launched our new brand identity – Avista.

Our name Avista refers to a broad sweep of the landscape ahead. The sense of new horizons. It speaks to the founding vision of the organisation and how its approach has always been forward-looking and progressive – never standing still. It implies looking ahead to the future with a sense of optimism and momentum from a strong vantage point. The name marks a bridge from the origins of the organisation to the future and retains the sense of quality, service and dedication to building an inclusive society.

Our History

Avista began as the Daughters of Charity Disability Support Services as founded by The Company of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul.
